A sustainability framework can be perfectly sound on paper and be less useful in reality. Procurement teams are dealing with cost, quality and continuity, commercial teams are responding to customers and managers have established processes, competing priorities and limited time. Any new requirement has to work in that environment.

Bluespar combines sustainability expertise with experience gained in international business, procurement and supply chains. We use what already works inside an organisation and change what needs changing. Sometimes a separate process is necessary, but often the real issue is unclear ownership, poor connections between functions or information that does not reach the people who need to make a decision.

Regulatory and contractual requirements need to be addressed deliberately, but that does not mean building a parallel system for everything.

We support companies across strategy, governance and operations, with particular experience in due diligence, responsible sourcing and global value chains. We also work with NGOs, foundations and multi-stakeholder initiatives where different interests and expertise need to be brought together around a practical purpose.

Peter Suasso de Lima de Prado

Founder and Managing Director

Peter founded Bluespar after more than 25 years in international business, including shipping, procurement, sales and supply-chain management. He has held senior roles in family-owned businesses and large corporations, working in complex industrial supply chains across international markets.

Over the past decade, his work has focused on corporate sustainability strategy and implementation. As Head of Sustainability at a major European steel producer, his responsibilities included ESG strategy, responsible sourcing, sustainability reporting and governance. He also established operational due diligence systems and connected sustainability more closely with procurement and enterprise risk management.

Peter has worked extensively in multi-stakeholder settings. He served on the steering committee of the Dutch International Responsible Business Conduct Agreement for the Metals Sector, working with companies, NGOs, trade unions and government on human rights and environmental risks in global supply chains. He currently sits on the Advisory Board of the Master’s in Sustainability Transitions at Rotterdam Business School.

He holds degrees in public and private law from Utrecht University, with a focus on business and trade. This legal background, combined with his operational and sustainability experience, informs his approach to governance, risk and due diligence.

Peter is based in Amsterdam and works regularly from Paris. He advises European and international organisations, particularly where global supply chains meet EU regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.

People develop capability by taking part in the work, not only through formal training. Wherever possible, we involve those who will ultimately own the process or decision so that they can continue without unnecessary dependence on external support.

Keep support proportionate

Bluespar can provide strategic advice, hands-on implementation support or a combination of both. The level of support should match the problem. Some assignments require sustained involvement; others need a focused intervention and a clear handover.
